The Young Ummah is a non-profit organization that was established in 2015 by a group of college students. We are officially recognized by the government and have official non-profit tax exemption status. The goal of this organization is to create a Muslim dialogue for young Muslim Americans through the lens of balanced and moderate Islamic teachings, hence titling the organization “The Young Ummah”, with our slogan being “A Voice From The Youth, For The Youth”.
Our mission is to create a dialogue catered especially for the Muslim Youth, but also open to anyone. The Young Ummah serves as a platform for Muslim Youth, where students from across the country have the ability to put their voice out there, and share their views and experiences. The goal is to create a collective identity for the Young Ummah, and to assure the countless Muslim Youth out there, that there are many of us that share the same story. Building communities and engaging in community service is also one of the major tenets of The Young Ummah’s mission.
Our two main projects are our online website and our lecture series. Our first project, our online website, is a platform for Muslim youth to share their writing. The goal of the website is to create a Muslim dialogue for Young Muslim Americans, in an effort to create unity and give a space for Young Muslim Americans to be heard. Anyone from across the country can submit an article to be published on the website on a topic that is important to them. Our second project is our lecture series, where our team gives lectures and workshops on various topics across different college campuses, mosques, conferences, and other venues across the country. We have chosen to focus on a variety of topics, including but not limited to: Current Events, Spiritual Development, Identity Crisis, Succeeding in School, Islamic Studies, Relations with Friends and Parents, and Science.
